Participants in our Eco Ambassador program:

  • Complete Eco Ambassador training modules to learn research and advocacy skills, and how to use GIS and digital storytelling tools to raise awareness of sustainability solutions

  • Receive mentorship support  to conduct their own research with Earth Institute faculty and researchers

  • Participate in panel discussions with youth participants together with SDG experts

  • Create Storymaps using ArcGIS, and associated lesson plans, to publish to the Mission 4.7 web platform

  • Create, test, and provide feedback on various SDG-oriented learning resources

 

By the end of the program, participants will: 

  • gain knowledge on the SDGs and sustainable development in their community.

  • gain access to scientists, policy makers, climate journalists, researchers and become aware of their research to expand their own research. 

  • become a part of a network of youth to facilitate exchange of ideas and brainstorm solutions. 

  • learn skills to collect real-time data 

  • learn GIS mapping. 

  • learn storytelling skills

  • create lesson plans to teach their peers

Educational Resources on SDG14

As part of the Eco Ambassador Summer 2021 program on "Life Below Water: Storytelling with ArcGIS", this session will help participants identify helpful online resources for learning more about the topic, exploring data, and getting ideas from existing SDG 14 Storymaps available on the SDGs Today website. We'll have a team of educators and researchers present some of their go-to online resources for learning about oceans and waterways, exploring existing data sets, and getting inspired to take action. The Panelists: Tara Stafford Ocansey - Education Technology Specialist at the Center for Sustainable Development Missy Holzer, PhD - Master science educator teaching in Chatham, New Jersey with experience conducting field research across the globe Maryam Rabiee - Manager, SDGs Today, UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network The session will be moderated by: Dr. Radhika Iyengar - Director of Education at the Center for Sustainable Development We'll also include time for participants to share resources they have found helpful, and to ask questions. If you're an educator interested in getting your students involved with the summer program, we encourage you to invite them to attend this event!
