JOIN OUR SUMMER 2021 PROGRAM

This year's summer program focuses on SDG 14 for Sustainable Oceans and Fisheries, with participants supported to learn ArcGIS storymapping tools to tell compelling data-driven stories about sustainability problems and solutions relating to SDG 14.

 

Timeline: 10 weeks from early June - mid-August, launching during World Oceans Day, June 8th

How might you use digital storytelling tools to promote sustainability solutions?

Activities:

  • Complete ArcGIS training modules

  • Storytelling workshop in July

  • Mentorship support for participants to conduct their own research with Earth Institute faculty and researchers

  • Panel discussions with youth participants together with oceans researchers and experts

  • Participants create Storymaps using ArcGIS to publish to an Esri Microsite for the Eco Ambassador program

  • Participants test and provide feedback on various SDGs oriented learning resources

 

By the end of the program, participants will: 

  • gain knowledge on oceans and the related SDGs. 

  • gain access to scientists, policy makers, climate journalists, researchers and become aware of their research to expand their own research. 

  • become a part of a network of youth to facilitate exchange of ideas and brainstorm solutions. 

  • learn skills to collect real-time data 

  • learn GIS mapping. 

  • learn climate storytelling

  • create lesson plans to teach their peers
