In December, I cleaned out my apartment to move to a new place.
Amidst the purging of many forgotten items that had been hiding in the back corners of drawers and cabinets, I came across a massive pile of plastic take-out utensils I had accumulated from ordering food delivery in Manhattan for 2 years.
Visually being reminded of how much one household of 2 people can accumulate shocked me-- and it is a shock I needed.
I considered myself at least a semi-eco-conscious person until I had to come to terms with the massive single-use plastics pile before me (I often noted requests on food deliveries to be made without utensils, but clearly I had not done it enough and sometimes the utensils still came even with the requests made).
Though it may be a small step, my goal this year is to make sure I get 0 food delivery with single-use plastic utensils in them.
