The hypocrisy of having someone sit there telling us that the burden of fixing the world falls on to your shoulders while simultaneously having them and their friends own the companies that have directly led to the destruction of our environment disgusts me. They will contribute more to the damage of the climate in a week than any single working class citizen will in their lives. The problems that have lead to climate change comes directly from big companies, not from the working class. The businesses and their owners will put on a facade of activism to ease their consciousness and appease the working class, but it is nothing more then that, a facade. They preach these ideas of solving climate change with paper bags, metal straws, and recycling. But they fail to talk about the biggest problem the environment faces. Their use of harmful and unregulated business practices. While every small thing does help in the long run it would be ignorant to not see where the majority of this harm is coming from. They are the reason the issue of climate change has gotten as large and as deadly as it has and they refuse to acknowledge the part they play. It is impractical and insane to push not only the blame, but the burden of solving the problem of climate change on to the very people that climate change harms the most, but this is exactly what has been done. The people in charge will preach and beg for change while they simultaneously protect and uphold the continued abuse of the system and environment by the big businesses in this country. Until big businesses are held responsible for their actions and their business practices are monitored and restricted no major positive change in the environment will ever come. I am sick and tired of sitting and watching as we are blamed for our demise, a demise that we did not cause. If they wish to push this burden of solving the problem of climate change on to us then so be it, but I for one will not sit by and continue to let big businesses get away with their crimes. They not only have destroyed our environment but they have taken our childhoods. You have pushed this burden on to our small shoulders and we will not stop until the people truly responsible are held accountable for their actions.

Hi Olivia! Thanks for sharing those stirring words and I have to say that I agree. The concept of a carbon footprint might be used under good conscience, but teaching this fails to acknowledge that the average consumer has not much of an impact compared to the sizable power fossil fuel corporations have. These companies have lied to the public for decades while their own scientists have found the harmful effects that emissions have on the global climate and the atmosphere. Because of a lack of scrutiny and holding these corporations accountable, they have gained enough capital to heavily influence politics here in the United States. It is important to be cognizant of this underlying issue, because unless serious action is taken to reduce emissions from the source, we can whatever we want to be sustainable but it won't really matter. I understand that you are upset because our generation has been given the burden of handling this crisis and the people in power are barely doing anything to help. 😠
However, I believe that there is still hope and the window of opportunity has not closed yet. If we can take substantial action in the upcoming years to greatly reduce emissions, we might gain the edge in curbing this catastrophe. It is important to realize that education and empowerment are key to quickly transition into an era of informed action. I hope that you and others reading this post will share your thoughts on what I wrote and elaborate on how they feel about climate change.🌎
